The calligraphy class Jina and I were so excited for was cancelled last minute.
When I read the email notification, I instantly felt so sad, mad, and flabbergasted all
at once, I just laughed. I don't think that's a normal reaction, but all I could do was
laugh at the situation. I think it had to do with the fact that this month was a little
rough with all the changes going on at work, and this workshop was like a light
at the end of the tunnel; a form of escape from all the stress. But my bewildered
state of the outcome just turned into sheer amusement.

The Man With Two Dogs

Here's a little musing I've had. On my drive to work, I see an elderly man walk
two dogs, one large black labrador mix and a tan medium sized dog (I'm not sure
what breed this one is), almost on a daily basis. Our schedules line up pretty well seeing
that I always see them crossing the road. Every time I see them, I can't help but feel
good. The black lab mix has clearly reached its time, and there he goes, walking ever
so slowly, with his owner, who needs just as much time and patience to walk. There
is no real point to this story. I just find this warming. The tan dog appears to be younger,
but he/she matches his/her pace so understandingly. I may be reading too much into
this, but is this not the sweetest subtle display of love? I see so much love.

1909 Paris Grand Palais

This is wondrous, whimsical, charming, and every other synonymous adjective
to say the least. Oh how I wish I could've experienced this 1909 air show in real life.

Hand Lettering

Hand lettering has been bringing me much joy and peace, especially after
a long day of work.

Red Radish

Something about vegetable illustrations with a slightly dated appeal is so satisfying to
look at. The black lines and sketch like quality when used harmoniously with color
is just beautiful. Though I decided not to color my "red radish", it would be red if I had.
Sometimes I think detailed lines are enough to compensate for the absence of color.
To top it all off, the names are handwritten in cursive with an occasional number for
reference that all looks so charming. I just really like it.

Jina and I signed up for a modern calligraphy class a couple weeks ago. We're just
counting down the days until this Saturday. We are so excited for this class and to get back
into nibs and ink.

We took a type design class in college where we designed our own typeface. Pretty neat.
Maybe I will post the font I designed and named Sea Salt when I am feeling less lazy.
It's fun to look back at past projects and remember the creative process it took, because
as nice as the final outcome can be, there's nothing more hearty and gratifying than the
actual process it took to get to the final piece. That's where all the magic and fun is.
Anywho, creating a font is a rigorous process I fully fathomed after taking this
class—much respect for type designers, much.

On a side note, I like slightly yellow, ivory, old-looking paper versus classic white.
Or something that has a slightly grayish tone, like newspapers—pretty much anything
but white. I feel like the color and tone of a paper adds tremendously to the overall
feel of the content and product itself. Others may think I'm crazy and ridiculous, but
love paper, and details like this I find so pleasing when taken into account.

Normal schmormal

Susie tagged me in an instagram post with this picture—hilarious and so true.
Everyone is weird and unusual in their own unique way, everyone. We all have little
quirks and mannerisms that differentiate us from others, and we can find commonality
in them that creates special bonds and friendships. Is there no beauty in that?
Though my very close friends, including my sister, have told me I am really weird—the
weirdest friend they've ever had. I will take that as a compliment, seeing that they
still hang out with me and seem to enjoy my company...seem...ho ho just kidding.
I am aware that I come off quiet, reserved, shy, and I have even gotten "stuck-up"
and "cold" but this is all before someone really got to know me. I am quite the open
book once I feel comfortable, really, a little too open. That is why the old adage
"don't judge a book by its cover" is noteworthy.

Whoohoo for being wəird.

Melrose Place

After we got some Alfred coffee, we walked around the farmer's market at
Melrose Place where I couldn't resist my urge to buy a bundle of Eucalyptus, so
I did for $4. So fragrant and so pretty, it is now standing beside my bed.

Susie and I were talking about how we hope to find someone (significant
other kind of someone) that enjoys coffee as much as we do. We find so much
joy in talking over a good cup of coffee, eating, and walking around where ever
that may be. I get a little irked when people think I'm so boring because I don't
like to drink alcohol. I personally just don't see or feel the fun in it. For a while I
thought I was boring, lame, you know, a party pooper as they say for not liking to
drink, but there is nothing wrong with me. So silly. If drinking (responsibly) is
fun for you, more power to you. Fun is completely subjective.

Cups

I have this thing with cups. Cups make me happy. I like to collect cups. I like having mix
matched cups so I will always buy just one in that style. I like cups so much I made a fun
little website dedicated to my cup collection in my Web Design I class. The project was
titled Cupolio. Anyway, this one here is a new addition to the family.

That bottle is from S'well, and I adore the wood finish on it. Apparently, it's hand painted.

PARIS

Someday soon, I hope.
